Aluminum Sulfate vs Aluminum Chlorohydrate

On the Comparison of Aluminum Sulfate and Polyaluminum Chloride
Aluminum sulfate and polyaluminum chloride are both chemical substances, and they are widely used in many fields. Now try to analyze the difference between the two.

Aluminum sulfate, its shape is either white crystal or powder. Its properties are relatively stable, and it is easily soluble in water. When dissolved, it can produce hydrolysis. And its hydrolysis products can make impurities in water concentrate, so it is often used for water purification. In the papermaking industry, it can also be used for sizing to increase the water resistance of paper.

Polyaluminum chloride is also an important agent for water purification. Its appearance is often yellow or yellow-brown solid, or colorless to yellow-brown liquid. Its water purification effect is better than that of aluminum sulfate. When polyaluminum chloride is hydrolyzed, it can quickly produce polynuclear hydroxyl complexes, with strong adsorption and bridging and electrical neutralization ability, which can make colloids and suspended solids in water sink at the same speed, and is suitable for a wider range of water quality. It is effective in high turbidity, low temperature and low turbidity water.

Furthermore, the preparation methods of the two are also different. Aluminum sulfate is mostly obtained by the reaction of bauxite and sulfuric acid; the preparation of polyaluminum chloride, or the acid solution method, or the neutralization method, pyrolysis method, etc., the process is more complicated.

In terms of environmental impact, if aluminum sulfate is used improperly, or the acidity of water bodies is enhanced, it will affect the habitat of aquatic organisms; although polyaluminum chloride is relatively mild, it should be used reasonably to avoid adverse consequences.

In summary, aluminum sulfate and polyaluminum chloride each have their own strengths. Users should choose carefully according to actual needs, water quality, cost calculation and other factors, in order to achieve the best effect and avoid all drawbacks.
