Is Stearic Acid A Steroid

The debate on whether stearic acid is a steroid
The relationship between stearic acid and steroids is discussed in the world. Or it is suspected that stearic acid is a steroid.

Stearic acid is a genus of fatty acids. Its structure is simple and clear, composed of long-chain alkyl and carboxyl groups. Looking at its carbon chain, it is regular and orderly, and does not have the four-ring complex core structure of steroids.

In contrast, steroids have a unique four-ring phase shape. This four-ring structure is its logo, and it is often connected with different side chain groups, giving it various physiological functions.

Stearic acid is mostly derived from the hydrolysis of lipids and is commonly found in animal and vegetable oils. It is widely used and has traces in soap making, lubrication, food and other industries. Steroids, on the other hand, exist in the body and are related to physiological regulation, such as hormones, vitamin D, etc., all rely on them to perform physiological functions.

Therefore, stearic acid is not a steroid. The two have different structures, different sources, and different functions. The concept of not mixing the two can be obtained from the study of biochemistry.
